What is “Digital Scholarship”?
Digital scholarship is generally understood as the use of digital tools or methods for scholarly activities like research, teaching, and publishing.
The phrase “digital scholarship” can describe both the process of creating new, often fluid forms of scholarship using digital tools and computational methods, as well as the ever-evolving products of technology-dependent research. Digital scholarship is intensely collaborative, iterative, public-facing, interdisciplinary, community-engaged, and open.
UCR Library provides support for digital scholarship activities and projects in several ways:
- Lowering barriers to learning new technologies through hands-on workshops and training
- Bridging disciplinary silos by fostering inclusive communities of practice and regular community meetups
- Facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation through digital project management and consultations
- Promoting critical engagement with technology and radical openness in the creation and sharing of digital tools and resources
DS Certificate Program
New in Summer 2023, the UCR Library is offering a non-credit-bearing undergraduate learning opportunity, where students will gain archival and digital research skills by engaging deeply with primary sources that highlight student activism and BIPOC student voices at UCR. This 6-week program runs concurrently with the 2023 Summer Sessions; applications are due April 28, 2023.

Workshops
Check out UCR Library workshops in the Digital Scholarship Series. These workshops are open to all students, faculty, and staff to learn more about specific software, tools, or digital research methods.
Recordings of past UCR Library workshops are also available to watch online. Contact us to request a workshop or instruction session on a particular topic or tool.
Consultations
Do you have questions about a digital tool or method, or have an idea for a digital project? Schedule a consultation with the Digital Scholarship Librarian to chat about your software questions or research interests! We are available to help you with a variety of topics, from text mining, network analysis, or 3D modeling to using specific web publishing platforms to share your research online. Since summer 2020, we have been holding regular Digital Scholarship Meetups. These are informal gatherings where we discuss various tools and topics of interest to our growing community. All UCR students, faculty, and staff are welcome to participate!
Resources for Students

Digital research support for graduate students is also available through the GradQuant Digital Humanities program.
Students are welcome to participate in UCR Library workshops to learn about specific tools and research methods in digital scholarship. Register for a workshop or contact us to request a workshop on a particular topic!
Resources for Faculty
In collaboration with our Teaching and Learning librarians, the Digital Scholarship Librarian is available to partner with faculty on integrating digital tools, assignments, or projects into your courses.

Training on particular tools for research, teaching, and publishing is available through UCR Library workshops and by request. You can request a workshop for your department or lab on particular software or methods.
