Joseph Barlow Lippincott (1864-1942), engineer, topographer, and hydrographer, was deeply involved in the early 20th-century projects that brought water to the arid and rapidly growing city of Los Angeles, and to other areas of the American West.

This collection documents Barlow’s work on projects for dams, reservoirs, aqueducts, water supply works, groundwater, and streamflow in Arizona, Texas, and other western States, and in California, particularly the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, through correspondence, reports, documents, news clippings, and photographs.
